Compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in terms of their general structures (plasma membrane and genetic material) and degree of complexity.
Prokaryotic Cell
Prokaryotic cells are the simplest and oldest type of cells. They contain no nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, or chromosomal DNA. They do contain everything you can see labeled in the image above. Prokryotic cells are not complex like a eukarytoic cell.
Eukaryotic Cell
Eukaryotic cells are complex and evolved after prokarytoic cells. Eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, vesicles, vacuoles, and chromosomal DNA within it's cell membrane.
Prokaryotic vs Eukaryotic
Below, you can see a graphic organizer comparing many of the characteristics of a prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell.
